Welcome to Ruby & Cake...
Who - A girl called Ruby with a camera and a baking obsession. I am a cook book addict, an alone girl. I love tea, red wine, books on serial killers, choux pastry, red lipsticks, phrenology heads, reading in the bathtub, sheltering arms, Mata Hari, chocolate cake, maraschino cherries and white peaches from the tree in my parents backyard. I like collecting recipes, vintage teacups, hearts, fractured psyches and travel maps. I long for change and new countries, cold mornings, books you cant put down and a little bakery somewhere to call my own.
What - Ruby & Cake is a blog for food, for recipes, for thoughts and musings. If you come perusing you will probably find layered cakes, soft cookies, the occasional moaning and groaning about the insignificant, photos shot in low light, photos shot in too much light, my hysterical and sad attempts at food styling, words written in philosophical prose, jumbled words that make little sense and paragraphs that attempt to sound impressive but may leave you thinking I am a bit of a wanker. You will find spelling mistakes, pictures of shoes and cats and plums. Oh and lists. I am a chronic list maker. A place where I post snippets of my world such as it is however adventurous, beautiful, odd or mundane.
Where - Currently homeless. Sometimes the Blue Mountains, Australia. Sometimes the rest of the world. Occasionally just the infinite macrocosm that is ones own thoughts.
Why - I started this blog as part of a food and media course I was taking. Once I was done with the course I found I wasn't done with the work. I have been a note taker since before I could write and I am never more comfortable than when I am creating or cooking in a kitchen. Food, the act of cooking, the art of creation have been constant themes throughout my life and are the ones I constantly crave more of. Cooking from scratch is my jam. I am here purely for the love of baking cake, for the love of playing with Betty my camera and for a lifelong love of the written word.
Favourite Ingredients - Eggs, butter, thyme, bitter chocolate, dark coco powder, vanilla beans, chillies, lemons. garlic.
